![]() Instead we had to settle for the downtown location, which is quite busy but still delicious. Sadly the area around the River Arts District was flooded during our trip to Asheville and we were unable to visit their flagship location (I understand it’s the location to visit if you can!). White Duck Taco Shop White Duck Taco Shop | 12 Biltmore Ave, Asheville, NC 28803 Hole Doughnuts fries their doughnuts to order (and that’s probably all the convincing you’ll need), and I love that each doughnut is hand-cut and uniquely shaped. Hole Doughnuts Hole Doughnuts | 168 Haywood Rd, Asheville, NC 28806 Call ahead for reservations, as we were unable to walk in on the evening we first selected. The vegan “cheese” platter can’t be missed. Plant Plant | 165 Merrimon Ave, Asheville, NC 28801īefore you click away after reading about a vegan restaurant, you should know that this restaurant is creative and satiating enough to satisfy my nearly-carnivorous partner. A bar makes a lovely souvenir, as we learned first-hand! ![]() The vibe next door at the boutique is a bit more elevated, and the staff are happy to share samples of bars from the Chocolate Bar Library. Yep – it’s as touristy as you’d expect, but the Lounge does make a mean drinking chocolate – perfect for warming up your hands on a cold evening. French Broad Chocolate Lounge French Broad Chocolate Lounge | 10 S Pack Square, Asheville, NC 28801 No reservations were available the night we were considering, but we lucked into a spot at the bar which serves items from their vermuteria menu. I’m usually wary when a place shows up that often in my search results (and when it has ~1,500 Google reviews), but the menu seemed so special that we gave it a go. When deciding where to eat in Asheville, this restaurant consistently topped every list. ![]() WHERE TO EAT IN ASHEVILLE Cúrate Cúrate | 13 Biltmore Ave, Asheville, NC 28801 Oh, and great food and beer, too! After exploring both the city and the surrounding areas, we assembled the city guide below to share what’s worth your time in Asheville (settle in – it’s a long one!). We concluded that Asheville pretty much has it all: nature within easy reach, a clean and walkable downtown area, and lots of events and cultural activities. With so many days in the area, we really felt like we explored most of what the city has to offer, leaving just enough off of our itinerary to entice us back for a return journey. We were fortunate to spend five nights in Asheville, and if you’re reading this, I hope you get to spend that much time in the North Carolina town as well. Thankfully, Asheville is home to a smaller, regional airport (more on that at the end of the post), and I was both thrilled and surprised to find an inexpensive flight over the winter holidays. Because we both work full time, time off is precious and it can be frustrating to spend those hours riding along in a car. You see, Asheville is at what we consider our maximum driving distance road-tripping there would eat up most of a day in both directions, and it’s a destination I would want to stay longer than just a day or so. We’ve heard this countless times over the past few years it seems like everyone was either planning a trip to the North Carolinian city or just returned from it. By then our experience was just really disappointing.Have you heard it too? You casually mention that you’re considering a little getaway, and then they say, “well, what about Asheville?” Her response was, "I will have it re-made but when you come in this time of day it can happen." Wow-just wow!!! So what time of day do we need to come in? Anyway, my pork was hot, my poached egg was hard inside, couldn't find the jalapeno pimento or the maple syrup. ![]() He told the server he had seen it sitting there so she waited while he tried it and of course it was cold. Well about three minutes later, it arrived at our table. He said "Well it's cold whoever it belongs to". We discussed maybe it was a forgotten order. Three orders came out and the chicken biscuit was still sitting there. My husband noticed an order in the window. From where we were sitting my husband could see the cooks and the counter. I ordered the pulled pork biscuit and my husband ordered the mimosa fried chicken biscuit. We were so excited to stop in for lunch as my husband and I both work and we can never seem to make it to this place during their business hours.
